evolution of the Islamic Education Academy (AKPI)
History
As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University is an evolution of the Islamic Education Academy (AKPI) As-Syafi’iyah, which was founded on November 14, 1965. On March 12, 1969, AKPI was upgraded to a university. The pioneering and dedication began in 1928 when 18-year-old Abdullah Syafi’ie started a madrasa with a piece of land from his father. The madrasa, originally named "Al-Islamiyah," developed into "As-Syafi’iyah Educational Institution." ( FA )

Coinciding with the second anniversary of Radio Dakwah on March 12, 1969, AKPI was upgraded to As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University (UIA) by establishing the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Commerce, the Faculty of Islamic Propagation, and the Faculty of Education. Between 1979 and 1980, three significant events occurred in the development of higher education at As-Syafi’iyah, outside of the As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University.
First, in 1979, As-Syafi’iyah collaborated with LP3ES (Institute for Economic and Social Research, Education, and Information), LBW (Bumi Wiraswasta Institute), LSP (Development Studies Institute), and PPA (Agribusiness Development Center) to establish the School of Entrepreneurship (STW).
The STW management team consisted of Utomo Dananjaya, Listianto, SE, Drs. Mansour Fakih, Nurhalim Chotib, SE, and Mundhir Adisaputro. This collaborative body received funding from national entrepreneur H. Probosutedjo for one year. After that, the continuity of STW was supported by personal funds from Dra. H. Tutty Alawiyah AS, who was always involved by K.H. Abdullah Syafi’ie in the responsibility for the development and expansion of As-Syafi’iyah. ( FA )
Furthermore, in 1981 the School of Entrepreneurship updated its management as follows:
Director: Utomo Dananjaya
Assistant Director I: Drs. Mansour Fakih
Assistant Director II: Roem Topatimasang
Assistant Director III: Jimly Asshiddiqie, SH
Second, in 1979, the As-Syafi'iyah Educational Institution collaborated with the Cooperative Body of Islamic Boarding Schools (BKSPP) to pioneer a Higher Boarding School or Ma'had Aly Darul Arqam, led by H. Murtadho Ahmad. Although a Supervisory Foundation was established to oversee Ma'had Aly Darul Arqam, in practice, this foundation handed over all supervisory functions to the As-Syafi'iyah Educational Institution.
